You share your sadness and it becomes less burdened but when you share happiness it increases. Strangely enough despite of the above fact people do not even know how or what will make them happy, I have been thinking about this question a lot lately and I know that obviously the answer is going to be different for each person, but the point is that when you ask someone what would make them happy, more often than not their answer is likely to be pretty vague.

Some will say, a good career or they might say family or money or success or whatever. There is nothing wrong with these things, but at the same time there is nothing much meatier to them as answers as well. They dont give us much to chew on – which is to say, they are not really actionable, too much intangibles and common, nothing special as all of us will want the same but to get what we want we have to be different. How can you get something without even aiming for it? We need to be more specific in our goal setting, here it is happiness, to actually achieve them, there is a difference in what we need and what we want.

Work hard, hunker down, tighten your belt, higher, faster, aim for the stars and make a better life to become and remain happy. There seems to be no dignity in happiness, not in this worldview at least, where happiness is considered as frivolous, fleeting, and ephemeral. From where and how will you get the time to rejoice, frolic and be joyful when you are all the time working your backs off? The other reason could be that we are not willing to face the question of what makes us happy: we are afraid that the answer will prove to be something out of our grasp. No matter whwther you are in UAE, Middle east, Saudi, Uk or any place on earth it remains the same.

Maybe you need a million dollars to be happy, and you only have a few thousand. Maybe you need a better job than you’re capable of holding, or a bigger house than you can afford, or a prettier wife or more handsome husband, or better-behaved children. Maybe you need to be smarter, better-looking, more outgoing, taller, healthier, more disciplined, thinner, someone else, which you are not. Maybe you want to play GOD, which is not possible. Can you buy it? At least I cant. There are unhappy people in all walks of life, if it were brains, there would not be unhappy smart people – but there are. If it is money, there wont be unhappy rich people – but there are, if it were looks, there wont be unhappy beautiful people – but there are. And vice versa – there are unhappy dumb people, poor people, and ugly people as well. Just as there are happy rich people, happy poor people, happy dumb people, happy smart people, happy beautiful people, happy ugly people – happy people of every stripe and shape and size.
